Anytime fitness launched online sign ups with no verification. No minors are allowed in their facilities. He signed up using an older age to get access. He is 16. His friends (maybe 20 he knows of) convinced him to because they do too. Sign up was a $1. He thought $1 a month for the contract but after that it’s $40 a month. He went like 3 times and stopped. I tried to cancel and they slapped me with a $450 termination fee. I asked for it to be canceled and a refund for all the monthly charges as minors cannot enter into a contract without parental permission. They said they won’t refund me the money, but will erase the termination fee. I don’t want to leave it as that. I want my money back to prove a point you have to have ID verification. I stated Anytime Fitness not going through the correct procedures to ensure their age is valid is not my problem. They said it’s me and my son’s fault. He risked their liability, was trespassing(he had access on his phone) and theft if they refund me my money(not sure why, he didn’t take anything). Was he wrong, yes, but that is for me to handle and reason why kids aren’t allow to make stupid decisions like this. A huge company like this is a whole other thing. She let me know she told a higher up manager, who is now being disrupted her vacation for my concern. Should I keep fighting this issue?
