This happened about a month ago but I thought I'd share the expirence to reddit. I (18f) almost ruined my roommate's (19f) insulin, let me give you context. I'm currently at my first year of college and the way our dorms work is a bare bones attempt at a mini apartment. There are two rooms, a small common area, and a small bathroom. I share one room with a highschool friend (Laura) and my two other roommates share the other room(Gabby) and (Jess).
During our finals week of our first semester here I was tasked with getting the room ready before winter break. I was the last one to leave because I had an exam the Friday of finals week. So I followed the list, cleaned the dorm and made sure everything was unplugged in both rooms. I got the room checked out and had gone my Mary way home.
Eventually it was time to head back up to college for the spring semester, more time had passed and it was time for spring break. Although the break is shorter than winter break the list of requirements for the room seemed almost IDENTICAL. Yet again I was tasked with checking out the room and made sure everything was unplugged, in all rooms. I had noticed in Gabby's and Jess' room they still had all of their stuff plugged in. So I went into their room and just unplugged their outlets and left. Got the room successfully checked out and was excited to go home for spring break.
Spring break flys by and I make the drive back to school. Gabby and Jess get their a little later than when I did. As were all putting our stuff back Gabby swiftly walks over to mine and Laura's room and says "Did someone unplug our stuff?" She sounded very frantic. So I replied "Yeah, I did. Why?" Turns out I had unplugged her mini fridge under her bed and she still has insulin in there. I FELT SOOOOO BAD. After I answered her stated that her insulin was in there and walked back to her room. After a second I walked over to her room and PROFUSELY APOLOGIZED. "Oh my god I am SO sorry Gabby, I didn't know and I should've messaged you before I unplugged your stuff, I just assumed it because it's what I did for the last room check out." She continued to state that it was fine and I had said "it's not done though, I really am sorry" She kept assuring me it was fine but it was very clearly NOT fine.
I walked back to my room and messaged my mom because my stomach was literally in my throat and I could stop hearing my heart beat. My dumb ass mistake could've just costed me thousands of ruined insulin. I was freaking out.
After about 10-20 minutes Gabby walks over to my room and says. "I messaged my mom and she said it should be fine, I'm sorry I freaked out." That was such a relief to hear. We had continued to chat and through our whole conversation I was profusely apologizing because I truly just felt so awful and like such an idiot.
I don't believe I am the asshole but I read a different roommate insulin story so I thought I would share.
So reddit, Am I The Asshole for almost running my roommates insulin?
Please wait...
