I went out to a local burger chain with a couple of friends and got a burger, fries, and a coke. The soda was bottomless. Since the fries were really salty I went through my coke pretty quickly. I get migraines from too much caffeine so I didn’t want to get another coke, so I asked the waitress if I could get a sprite instead. I figured that since they come from the same fountain it shouldn’t be a problem
When we got the bill I saw that I had been charged for both the coke and the sprite. I argued with the waitress that since the drink was just listed as a bottomless soda it shouldn’t matter and I should just be charged for the one fountain drink rather than separately for the coke and the sprite. (On the bill it was just listed as two fountain drinks and not as separate drinks)
I ended up asking to speak to the manager and argued my case to him. He seemed to see my side but also seemed more annoyed that I was arguing over a $2 soda. He took the extra drink off. I payed for my food and yes, I tipped 20%.
Later, one of the friends I was with said I should have just paid for the extra soda and not argued with the waitress. She called me a “total Karen”. When I told my husband he agreed with me, but I still feel kinda bad for arguing with the waitress over $2.
So, Reddit, AITA?
