📝 AITA for asking a school friend for my $10 back and telling his friends after he kept saying he'd give it but never did?

So there is a person who was my schoolmate (we were in the same class). We both graduated long ago — it has been 10 years. We never talked over a call or met during these 10 years, but we both had each other's numbers and just exchanged New Year or festival wishes over a messaging app. We both have jobs now and earn more than enough to consider $10 a very small amount.

In November, when I wished him for a festival, he replied saying he needed $10 and would return it by the end of the day. Since $10 wasn’t a big amount, I transferred it online and forgot about it. Then, on January 1st, I reminded him that it was still due — nothing. I texted him on February 12th asking for it back; he replied saying he would do it in an hour but never did. I asked again on February 16th, and he replied that he would do it in a little while — and didn’t. I texted on March 1st — he ignored it. I texted on March 25th; he said he would do it in the evening — and didn’t. I texted him on March 26th; he said he would do it by EOD — but didn’t.

At this point, I got pissed because he was neither denying that he would return my money nor actually returning it. So I started texting his school friends (I am not in touch with any of them) and told them, “If you can, please ask this person to return my money.” I also told him I was doing this, and he got defensive. That pissed me off even more, so I started texting him continuously to return my money and even called him at 1 a.m.

Then the next day, after texting multiple times, he gave my money back and called me afterward trying to embarrass me — saying I was in the wrong for doing all this for just testing a friend, and that $10 is a very small amount. He said he would have eventually given me the money. I asked him — he had four and a half months to return the money, so why didn’t he? He had no explanation and just kept trying to humiliate me for my actions and for how I was in school.

AITA?

Edit: Follow up, should I have forgotten the 10$ when after asking 5-6 times he ignored or forgot?
