i’m going to start this off by saying i haven’t talked to him about it yet but i want to know if i even have the right to be annoyed.

i(20m) live with my gf(21f) and our roommate(20m). about 3 weeks ago my roommate(who is from across the country) was told that his childhood dog had been put down. ever since then he has not been keeping up with his household chores and has been being extra almost snotty.

his chores include: tidying up the living room, cleaning our two cats litter boxes, and doing the dishes twice a week my chores include: tidying up the kitchen, cleaning the bathroom, and taking out the trash my gfs chores include: tidying up the dinning room, and sweeping/mopping the floors.

ever since his dog died(and even a bit before that) he has not been doing his chores. the dishes pile up in the sink, the living room is always a mess(mostly his stuff), and the litter boxes have been disgusting. i’m a full time college student, my roommate is a full time college student, and my girlfriend works full time. my roommate is also a student athlete.

my roommate has also just been fairly rude recently. he hasn’t been cleaning up after himself to the point where the living room is always dirty with his things. he leaves food everywhere for our cats to get into, is never home because he’s out with his friends, and is always complaining about how little time he has to do chores. when i say always out with his friends i mean ALWAYS. after class, before practice, after practice until late late at night, on the weekends.

my girlfriend and i have been leaving the house for a few days at a time recently to go to my parents to prepare for a surgery i just had. every time when we get back the house is a mess. to the point where it looks like they had a party.

after my surgery my girlfriend had to go back to work and asked if my roommate could stay with me when they’re not busy for a few days while i was on high dose pain meds. he said sure. instead, he went out with his friends for HOURS leaving me home alone all day.

while we were gone for my surgery we had a friend watching our cats. we all decided to give the friend a spare key to get into the house while all of us were gone. when we got back my girlfriend went to work as usual when she noticed she didn’t have her house key. apparently our roommate took the house key off of her keychain and gave it to the friend without telling anyone.

do we have the right to be annoyed with his behavior?
