My bf (30M) of 4 months and i (30F) work on an island, a famous tourist spot in our country, miles away from our homes. He's from a different city, 905 miles away from mine. Last month, 1 week after i returned to work from vacation leave (for my mother's 60th birthday), he got sick. I took care of him but he needed to go a hospital with equipments that can help him so he was sent to his home and I can't take another leave to take care of him.

When he was in the hospital, he told me that he can't use his phone because his eyes hurt and that he's diagnosed with pneumonia and acute pyelonephritis so i told him it's okay, as long as he updates me on his status or if he's getting better. So 1 week later he was discharged and was advised to rest at home for another 2 weeks. During his stay in the hospital, i rarely chat him because I don't want to disturb his rest and because he told me his eyes hurt.

But, while he's staying at home, he didn't chat me anymore and only answers my chat if i chat him first. Every time i ask him, he'll say his head hurts and don't want to use the phone much. He never asked how I'm doing too, but i just told myself that maybe he's just too sick. Again I told him to give me an update from time to time if can and i will stop chatting him for awhile unless he'll say that he's already good on using phones.However, it's been 5 days and i haven't heard from him.

Suddenly, my friend told me he just posted a quote on FB saying "errors are noticed, efforts are ignored". I know it's not for me so i was curious whose that for. Then i saw on my feed that he's been reacting to shared memes of our mutual friends and even commenting on some. I cleared our nicknames on messenger hoping he'll react to what i did too but nothing happened, not even 1 word "why". His bonus from our work was handed to me so i texted him saying i have his money. He immediately replied and told me he can't message me because he's still not well and can't breathe. Then without explanation, i told him i wanna breakup with him. I have this gut feeling that I'm just his side chick and he's with his wife/gf at home. He said he thought i understand him because he's sick and he told me he respects my decision.

Am I right to break up with him even when he's sick? Do you think he has a family and I'm the side chick? Or I'm just a pure a-hole for assuming things and just being selfish?
