📝 AITA for calling in to work over having a URI/the cold?

So I’ve been sick for days and have basically the week off due to this. I sound terrible, I look terrible, and I feel terrible. I work in a convenience store and am frequently handling peoples snacks and drinks, which is why I called out - I don’t want to sit here coughing and snotty while dealing with them. I usually never call off and I always volunteer to cover other peoples shifts.

I went out and got tested by my doctor - all tests were negative, but he says I appear to have an acute respitory infection and that’s why he wants me off. I have been coughing and sneezing and constantly running snot down my face. I haven’t slept in days. My lungs itch and my throat is sore and tight. Apparently “I sound horrible” (thank you to my friends and family).

However, my team and manager seem rather irritated that I’ve called out rather than just working through it. Some coworkers are out due to scheduled vacation, leaving just a couple of people, and I understand this puts stress on everyone. I tried to not call in and I feel terrible. But I don’t want to handle food and drink when I am disgusting like this!
