I (27F) may have just absolutely destroyed my best friend's wedding and I'm freaking out. My BFF Mia has been with Chris for 3 years, and they were supposed to get married yesterday.

The night before at the rehearsal dinner, I overheard Chris talking to another groomsman in the hallway. I couldn't hear everything, but I clearly heard "she doesn't need to know" and something about "the girl from Vegas" and "last weekend." My stomach dropped - I've been cheated on before and recognized the secrecy.

I was a few drinks in and instead of pulling Mia aside privately, I marched right back into the dinner and announced what I'd heard in front of EVERYONE. Chris turned ghost white, and Mia burst into tears. Her parents were mortified, his family was shouting, total chaos.

Turns out, Chris and the groomsmen had planned a surprise honeymoon to Vegas as a wedding gift. The "girl" was the travel agent who was helping them book it last-minute. Mia had always talked about wanting to go there, and he wanted it to be a surprise.

The wedding is "postponed" now. Mia won't answer my calls. Chris's mom called me a "jealous, bitter bitch who couldn't stand to see her friend happy." Even my own mom said I should have verified before nuking a wedding.

But like, what was I supposed to do? If he HAD been cheating, wouldn't I be the hero? I was just trying to protect my friend from marrying a cheater, and the way they were talking sounded shady af.

AItA for potentially ruining my best friend's wedding over what might have been a misunderstanding?
