So, a bit of context: I (F25) am someone who really loves having a stash of snacks for myself. I have a variety of things I keep in the pantry, and I always make sure to get my favorite stuff when I go grocery shopping, because they’re the one thing I can rely on for a treat when I’m having a bad day.
Lately, I’ve noticed that every time I go to grab a snack, a lot of my favorite things are just gone. At first, I thought maybe I was just misremembering where I put them or someone else in the house was eating them, but after paying closer attention, I realized it’s my boyfriend (M27) who’s been eating them.
We live together, but we’ve never really had a clear agreement about snack-sharing. I don’t mind sharing, but I do expect him to at least ask first, or, like, maybe leave me some of the stuff I specifically bought for myself. He’s been eating my chips, my chocolate, even my protein bars. I was fine with him having a little bit here and there, but it’s been getting worse. The other day, I went to grab my last pack of my favorite cookies, and he had eaten the whole thing. No warning, no asking if I wanted any—just gone.
I confronted him about it, and he got really defensive, saying I’m overreacting and that I should just buy more if I want them. I get that, but it’s not the point—it’s about respect and consideration. He says I’m being controlling, and that I should just share my stuff if I’m so attached to it.
Am I the asshole for being upset and expecting him to at least ask before eating my snacks?
TL;DR: My boyfriend keeps eating all of my snacks without asking and when I brought it up, he said I’m overreacting. AITA for wanting him to ask before taking my stuff?
