I (22F) was seeing this guy (20M) for a little over a week. It got intense really fast. The first night we met, he took a photo of us and put it in his clear phone case. He’d hold me all night, call me his angel, tell me I was his love, and say he wanted to be with me “until his soul left his body.” He talked about traveling together and said I was part of his plan to move to another state with his friends to grow their music business and live in a van.
He lived in an underground rave house, made Lil Peep-style music, and regularly took unprescribed Xanax. He gave me pills and encouraged me to drink with them. I did twice. I didn’t feel comfortable saying no. He told me he really liked me. I believed him.
Timeline: • Thursday night: I stayed over. • Friday: He ghosted me—no calls or texts. • Saturday, 2 PM: He finally texted: “Sorry my love for going MIA… been busy with homework and prepping for my event. Can’t wait to chill with you this weekend 🖤”
That night I stayed over again. He was super out of it on Xanax. I offered to do his homework and set his alarms. While he was asleep, a message popped up from a girl I didn’t know. I didn’t dig—I just opened that one chat.
She’d asked him to come over Friday night—the same night he ghosted me. He replied, “is this a setup?” She sent her location. He said “on my way.” I scrolled up and saw an old photo of her neck covered in hickeys, calling him a vampire. He had told me they had no history.
I tried to leave. He begged me to stay. Said I was overthinking. That they played volleyball. That I meant something to him. I stayed.
Monday: His house got raided. He asked me to help him hide his Xanax. I did. He texted later saying I was his angel and asked me to come back that night.
While I was home, my best friend (who saw how attached I was getting) messaged the girl to confirm what he told me. The girl lied, then admitted parts of it, got defensive, and promised she wouldn’t tell him. But she did—and blocked my friend.
He suddenly told me not to come over. Said he was tired. I had to drag the truth out of him. He told me he wouldn’t talk to me unless I apologized to the girl for “bothering her.” So I did—even though I wasn’t the one who messaged her.
Tuesday night: He ended things. Said he wanted to spend his last time in the city with people he could trust. Told me he didn’t want to see me again.
When I asked why he lied, he said, “I didn’t think I had to tell you. I barely know you.” He blamed everything on me. Claimed not to remember me doing his homework, setting alarms, or the night he begged me to stay.
I know looking at someone’s messages is a violation. But it was just one thread—and I only opened it because I felt something was off. And I was right. Still, I ended up apologizing. And got discarded like I was nothing.
So… AITA for looking at that one message and confronting him, even though it confirmed he lied?
