Hey everyone, I (25M) am having an issue with my wife (24F). She wants to lend her car to her mom's boyfriend because he crashed his car into a wall (I’ll explain more in a bit).

First, let me say we don’t really know her mom's boyfriend that well. We’ve met him a couple of times, but that’s about it. What I do know is that he and my wife’s mom argue a lot. They constantly break up and get back together. Her mom has even smashed a phone on the ground during one of their fights.

Now, as for the crash: Apparently, during an argument, my wife’s mom pushed his steering wheel while he was driving, causing him to crash into a wall. For context, her mom is a single mom with three teenage sons still living at home, and she doesn’t have the money to fix the car.

So, here’s where the issue comes in: my wife’s mom called her, almost in tears, asking if she could lend her car to her boyfriend for a few days. I immediately objected. Even though I have my own car, we’re in a tough situation right now. Our pet is in the vet hospital, I work odd hours, and we live far from the city, which adds extra gas costs and mileage. On top of that, we’re struggling financially.

I just feel like it’s unfair for her to lend her car to someone we hardly know, especially when it could potentially damage our personal and financial situation. So, am I out of line for being against lending the car to her mom’s boyfriend, especially considering the history of arguments and the fact that he just crashed the car? AITA?
