📝 AITA for refusing to lend my laptop to my roommate for his job interview?

I (25M) live with two roommates. One of them, let's call him Jake (26M), isn’t the most responsible guy. He’s broken two of my kitchen appliances before and never really owned up to it. Last week, he asked if he could borrow my laptop for a Zoom interview because his computer "was acting weird."

I didn’t feel great about it. My laptop has all my work stuff on it, personal files, and honestly, I just don’t trust him not to mess something up accidentally. I politely told him I wasn’t comfortable lending it out, but I could help him maybe try to fix his own or find another solution.

He got pretty annoyed and said I was being selfish and “costing him a chance at a job.” Later he made a big deal about it in front of our other roommate, saying I was “supposed to be a friend.”

Now I’m wondering if I was being too harsh, but I honestly feel like people should take care of their own stuff and not expect others to bail them out.

AITA?
