Hi everyone I (18 F) recently got a scholarship to study engineering in the US. However my religiously strict parents want me to change my scholarship to a local university. Mind you that I’m technically the first girl in the family to get a full scholarship with a job after graduating, so i understand why they’re worried about me but the fact that they’re guilt tripping me to stay in my country is crazy. I tried to explain that i’ll be staying with other girls from my country and the scholarship provides mentors to check on us and tried everything to convince the why I don’t want to stay here but unfortunately they got really mad and upset and my mom especially threatened me ( she won’t sign the legal papers). They can’t understand that the environment around me is so toxic and this is my chance to be independent and grow out of my comfort zone. So should I stay for them but regret the upcoming 4 years of my life just for them to be happy with me?
