Before we get into this, I wanna clear a few things up. I will not post spoilers for the movie, and NO I am not a racist or sexist, and my daughter thinks I’m a great dad. OK, so last weekend my daughter (7F) and I (39M) went to the theater to see the new Snow White movie. I had low expectations for the movie going into it, due to the fact that most remakes suck, and I didn’t agree with some of the casting choices. During our viewing of the movie, my daughter seemed enthralled in the whimsical nature of the characters, and the fact that Snow White was portrayed as a female leader she could look up to. However, I didn’t like that… not one bit. During the movie I couldn’t help but silently sob in the theatre out of nostalgia for an America gone by. I simply couldn’t believe they had tarnished such an iconic character like Snow White by making her a strong independent woman when she’s supposed to be traditional and feminine!! My daughter noticed me crying and she became distraught, so we left the theatre early. On the way home, my daughter explained how she loved the movie and couldn’t understand why I didn’t like it. I tried to explain myself, but obviously she’s too young and dim to understand my adult opinions, so all my explanation got me was a silent drive home! I couldn’t help but feel like a little bit of an asshole for ruining the movie for my daughter. But at the same time, I think it was for the best because I don’t want my daughter exposed to that kind of nonsense in the cinema. So Reddit, do you guys think I’m the asshole??
