📝 AITA for Telling My Partner I Don’t Want to Adopt a Pet Right Now?

I (27F) have been with my partner (29M) for almost two years. We recently moved in together, and it’s been going pretty smoothly. He’s been bringing up getting a dog for the past couple of months — like, seriously bringing it up. Showing me shelters, videos, even talking names.

I love dogs, I really do. But I work long hours, and he’s hybrid — so some days he’s home, some days not. I know that I will end up doing most of the caretaking, walking, cleaning, vet visits, etc. On top of that, we’re still adjusting to our new place and budgeting carefully.

I told him I’m not ready yet — maybe in a year when things are more stable. He got frustrated and said I’m “overthinking everything” and that I’m “not thinking about our future” because he always imagined having pets in the house. I said I’m not against it forever, just not now.

Now things feel a little tense between us. He’s still looking at adoption websites and making comments like, “If it were just me, I’d already have a dog.” I’m starting to feel like the bad guy for wanting to wait.

So, AITA for putting the brakes on getting a dog right now?
