It started sometime in 2019. As an undergrad in Florida, I frequently used ride share platforms to get to and from bars, clubs, the grocery store, the plug, etc... twice or thrice the driver asked me "is it Jaws?". The first time I was completely confused; to be fair, I have a pretty common name and I didn't expect a pronunciation check. but then I realize the folks who asked me were rideshare drivers from foreign countries, so I paid no mind to it. fast forward, five or six years later I'm in New Mexico getting my rideshare to come back home from a long flight and the driver asked "Is it Jaws?". This time i cracked; "brother, its Jose. we're in New Mexico." I wasn't really trying to be an asshole but I could tell he felt bad because he was like oh OK sorry and then the rest of the ride was quiet, but I was being playful. I really just reacted. Am I the asshole?
