My(27F) boyfriend (31M) and I live together and were watching love on the spectrum after he got home from work today. About halfway in he started talking about how it was shitty of Netflix not to help one of the single men on the show fix their hair because he was "clearly" balding. I tried to tell him that it didn't matter because the show is about love not physical appearance. He started to double down on his comment saying they could have given him rogain, hair plugs, wigs etc. I told him his comments were icky and he's missing the point of the show but he got more defensive. When I said not everyone thinks about it like he does, he said something along the lines of "how could you NOT? you can see his entire scalp in the sun!" Which made me 10 times as upset. I'm pretty avoidant when I'm upset and just stay quiet; though my face inadvertently does all the talking for me. Once he realized that I was actually grossed out by the comments he said "You know what? I'm just going to hang out by myself then."
He's now completely ignoring me and closed himself in the bedroom to avoid talking to me at all. For context, I work with developmentally delayed kids and adults so comments like those don't just go over my head. It especially hurt because I was working all weekend and today was the first day we could really hang out in awhile but now he won't even talk to me. Am I the asshole? Should I apologize? Was it nitpicking him to call out his comment?
