The title basically says it all... I asked my boyfriend to unfollow this girl on Instagram because they don't talk at all and they haven't for a long time. I then realized that this girl used to like him and he used to like her back however they never dated. I asked him to just unfollow her because they don't talk anymore and I'm just uncomfortable with the fact that he used to like her as well. To me it doesn't seem that harmful since they barely have any connection at this point. Not to mention she doesn’t even live nearby she lives in another state.

However when I said this he became incredibly defensive saying things like "oh I can't because we're still friends even tho we don't talk" and "oh I can't because she's friends with my siblings/other friends". I then repeated again that it shouldn't really matter because they don't really have a relationship out side of that mutual connection. They used to like each other and they don't talk or anything so I saw no reason for him to be so defensive about it. He then tried to say that he never liked this girl and had no reason to like her and that he doesn't know where I got this idea from.

(He told me about her and how he used to like her. This happened because as one does I asked him about his exes and the people he used to like before me)

So I knew I wasn't just pulling this out of my ass. I questioned how he was trying to gaslight me when he himself told me about her and his crush on her. I then questioned him about where his priorities laid and he said I was important to him but he wasn't going to just unfollow this girl. He then ran off and refuses to talk to me about it claiming that I'm being crazy and irrational and jealous.

For reference I don't mind him having female friends. He has female friends that he talks to hand plays games with sometimes. But this girl he doesn't talk to and like I said i just find it uncomfortable that he used to like her and his reaction is making me feel strange as well. I don't think he's cheating or anything but I just don't understand why he can't unfollow this girl and got so upset when I asked him to.

I guess I just want to know AITAH? Was my request unreasonable and am I blowing this out of proportion?
