Hello all! I 19(f) am basically the designated pet caretaker for my parents. I am in college, but I have a car and live roughly 3 hours from my college. Over the school year, I drove home a few times a to get my dog and bring her back to my apartment to watch her while my parents take vacations. They have never paid me, and often get angry when I mention any type of payment. When summer comes, I spend it at home, and this summer my dad went out of his way to obtain a job for me, (my parents are huge on me prioritizing working in summer). This is where the problem comes, my dad said I must take the job, basically work comes first (no trips, no time off for my birthday, etc can be mentioned). I just found out that a week after my birthday my parents are taking a two week cruise, and as I am the only child living at home this summer, this means I am expected to care of our pet bird and dog. My mom is big on our animals, this means my dog gets about 3-4 longer walks a day, and my bird whom I dislike very much gets her cage cleaned daily (this bird hates me and loves to bite me any chance she gets). I happened to realize that I will be expected to work full time this summer and take care of these pets (leaving me basically no free time and limited time for me to do anything while they're gone. I want to mention payment, 2 weeks is a long time, and considering they never paid me for the transportation of my dog up to school along with all other expenses I feel its time I put my foot down. There is a chance I'll get scrutinized but I have to know AITAH for wanting payment?

As per the confusion In my comments: I love these animals, they're not mine. They live full time with my parents and they're THERE pets. My mom got the bird when I moved out for college, so no I do not get along with the bird. They are family pets, but I am an adult who lives primarily out of the house.
