📝 AITAH for bringing my kids around someone chronically ill?

I (34M) reconnected with someone very special to me earlier this year. This has brought a ton of joy to my life.

He has cystic fibrosis, so he’s been sick for as long as I’ve known him. His health has taken a turn for the worst since we found our way back into each other’s lives. He has to wear a nasal cannula pretty much constantly now, has stints in the hospital, etc.

My kids (7M, 5M) love him. Like, they worship the ground he walks on. They’re even good sports about wearing masks since they know we can’t risk him catching anything.

My ex-wife (34F) is against our children being around him. I didn’t even ask her before I introduced them, because I thought it was a non-issue. We usually have a healthy co-parenting relationship but this is straining it. She’s saying i’m cruel for “getting our kids attached to someone who isn’t going to make it.”

I told her that our children aren’t stupid. They understand, in kid-friendly terms, the concept of death. They understand that he won’t be with us forever. She isn’t budging, though, and I’m not sure what to do. AITAH for not respecting her wishes?
