(This is obviously posted on a throwaway account)

Today, I (M29) got kicked out of the family dinner because I debloated their pc. It all started a year ago when I discovered an operating system called “Linux”, basically it’s an os that is fully open source and free of company spyware and bloat. In may we had a family dinner in which I had brought with myself an usb stick with Linux on it. Durning the dinner, my relatives started berating me saying that I am lazy, fat, unemployed. This angered me very much, but I’m not that type of person to lash out over things like this. That’s when I had the idea to do them a favor and debloat their family computer. I told them that I was just going to the toilet. Fortunately, it was out of sight so they couldn’t see me. So I went to their computer, removed windows and installed Linux. I made sure that their important files were still on there. I went back to my seat and started eating again.

After everyone left and I was driving with my parents home (I live with my parents) my dad got a call from them saying that “their pc is broken” or something like that. They had to bring their pc to geek squad to get windows back… idiots.

Yesterday, we had another family dinner, this time at another relative’s house. As usual, I had my Linux usb stick with me and got the idea to debloat their pc once again. So why they were talking, I excused myself to go to the bathroom and made my way to their pc and started installing Linux. Halfway through the installation, my uncle went to the bathroom. He saw me doing something with their pc and asked me “what are you doing”. I said “nothing”. “Okayyy” he said and came back to the table to tell my relative that I am doing something with their pc. Immediately after my relative heard this, she got up and went to me. When she saw me, she started screaming, other family members heard this and came too. My father said “what the hell are you doing!”. I said that I am doing a good thing and they should be thankfull for it. They didnt buy it and kicked me out of the dinner. When my parents came home they were mad as fuck and lashed out on me saying that I am a useless idiot and that I am permanently banned from attending family dinners. They also said that they had to get a new pc that cost them a lot of money.

Am I the asshole or was their anger unjustified?
