Hi all. A few months back a good friend of mine invited us (me, hubby and our 2 kids) to go with them to their holiday home for a long weekend. She asked me the day before we wwere meant to leave since they decided spur of the moment that they wanted to go.

My husband unfortunately had to work the entire weekend, so she asked if the kids and I would want to go anyway and offered to pay for everything - fuel, meals, everything. Since my kids hadnt been to the ocean in three years I took her up on her offer and we tagged along.

My husband is extremely upset about this and says he cannot believe that we went on a "family vacation" without him. I feel like its unfair of him to expect us to miss out on this opportunity because he has to work and that we would have to stay home for the odd chance of spending 2-3 hours with him the entire weekend.

Am I the a-hole for going even when he couldn't join us?

Side note: His job has very irregular hours and days and he receives his schedule at most two weeks in advance so its always difficult to plan these types of getaways and even events ahead of time anyway because we never know if he would be able to attend
