My boyfriend is German and we're in a relationship for a bit under a year now. I love him very much and our values pretty much always align. Yesterday tho he said something that kinda made my stomach drop. He was in the German military for a year and a half before our relationship. It's two years ago now I think. And I knew about it and although I dont agree with any military, I didn't care much.

So yesterday we met with a few friends and he briefly talked to a friend about his time in the military. It was all normal stuff until he said "honestly bro it was so boring tho. It was just training all day for nothing. I thought I could go to Afghanistan or something and have some fun" and then he laughed with him. I immediately was like "wtf do you mean by that?" And he said it was just a joke.

I was honestly so disgusted. I talked to him about it later in private and he even doubled down. I told him that I think it's absolutely disgusting and sick to make jokes like that and he became incredibly defensive. He called me dumb and sensitive because I "have no idea what it's like to be in the military".

I was very emotional I admit that's why I wanted some stranger's thoughts..
