Important : the situation hasn't happened yet, I'm only projecting.

I'm a student and I want to apply to a prestigious internship that hypes me a lot. One of my bestfriends is a student in the same field as mine. He didn't tell me he was looking for an internship at the moment (because he's a bit of a procrastinator, I guess he'd like to have an internship but doesn't consider it as a priority for now).

In our field, finding a job or an internship is hard, there aren't a lot of opportunities. I want to apply to this internship and not telling anyone, and only telling him when I'm rejected/accepted because I'm afraid of losing this opportunity and creating competition between us if he decides to apply too.

This friendship is very important to me, and we help each other since college (but I consider I'm the one who helped the most). I worked very hard and for once I want to prioritize my own success instead of sharing every win.

So, what should I do ?
