So to start this off almost everyone except my family calls me by my nickname, so for that reason on any social media platforms I use I put my nickname as it's what I'm most known by. A few months ago I had made a new friend and I'm 99% sure I told her my display name is just a nickname, however today we were hanging out and somebody called me by my actual name, to which my friend said "oh do you mean (my nickname)?" I looked at her and said "you do realize that's my actual name right, blank is just a nickname" she looked absolutely shocked and got super mad at me and accused me of lying to her and being misleading, I've never hidden the fact that was just a nickname, we've called a few times and my parents have referred to me by my actual name on the phone but she never noticed I guess. She's refusing to speak to me and I'm starting to wonder if maybe I'm an ah, should I start putting my actual name as my display name instead of the nickname everyone calls me?
