So for some backstory. We’ve been friends for well over 20 years. He dated this girl in high school, and he was a bit of an asshole to her, but she stuck around anyway…but that’s their business, whatever makes them happy I guess. Then, as it does, life moved on, they split, both got married to other people, but very recently both got divorced. Then about 3 months ago they reconnected, and to the joy of absolutely nobody who knows either of them, they started dating again…they both know that nobody is thrilled, but apparently are happy enough, at least for now.

Now, I don’t really care much about birthdays in general, it’s just another day. However, I don’t mind the excuse to have some friends over, make and eat delicious food, drinks, and be merry…thats what it’s about.

So, the party is coming up. I Invited some folks over, including him but made absolutely no mention of her, hoping he’d get the clue/read the room, and leave it at that. But, he didn’t. He asked if he could bring her too. And I just don’t want her here. It’s not that I actively dislike her (although my wife kinda does), I just don’t particularly enjoy her company, the fact they’re back together, or the dynamic it might introduce to others at the party who, like me, may be less than thrilled with their recent recouping.
