📝 AITAH for replacing my sister’s bridesmaid dress with a fake after she tried to sabotage mine?

i (23f) was a bridesmaid for my sister’s (27f) wedding a few weeks ago. we don’t have the best relationship. she’s always seen me as the “irresponsible” younger sister because i didn’t go the traditional route—i’m a tattoo artist, i live with my boyfriend, and i dress kind of alternative.

for her wedding, she made it very clear she wanted everything to be “classy and elegant.” whatever, her day, her rules. she picked these champagne silk bridesmaid dresses that honestly looked great on everyone. they weren’t my style but i respected her vision.

the issue is, i overheard her and one of her friends joking about how my dress might “mysteriously disappear” before the wedding because i “stand out too much.” i didn’t say anything, but i got a weird feeling.

cut to the night before the wedding. my dress is missing. completely gone from my room at the airbnb we were all sharing. i was furious, but i had a backup plan because i had a hunch this would happen.

i had bought a second, nearly identical dress online—same color, same shape—but the fabric was cheaper and the zipper a bit janky. i wore it, said nothing.

after the wedding, my sister demanded i pay her $400 for “ruining the photos” with a dress that was “clearly not the same.” i told her she should ask whoever took mine. she doubled down and said i was being dramatic and should’ve told her.

so i told her the truth: i knew she was planning something, and wore the fake one on purpose. now she’s mad at me for being “vindictive and manipulative.” our mom says i should’ve just let it go and not played games on her big day.

but like… she did try to screw me over, right?

AITAH for setting a trap instead of confronting her?
