Alright, so this happened at my high school, in English class. We had this timed writing essay test afew days ago. We finally got our scores back and I got a 95%.

Me and my friend (we sit next to each other) were comparing scores, and I did better than him. We started joking around, saying how much we hate the class and how the teacher is probably biased in my favor. We’ve both kind of thought this for a while. Like, on the first day, I told the teacher I hated English, but I still keep getting A’s. So yeah, it’s kinda funny.

I know I might sound arrogant here, and I am, but that’s not really the point. I genuinely don’t try that hard in English, I just do the bare minimum to get by. I’ve said this to my friend a bunch of times before and this was no different. So this time, while we were laughing about it, I said something like, “I didn’t even try.”

Turns out, a girl sitting near us heard that. She’s one of the popular girls and is actually a really good writer, she’s even won awards. But apparently, she got an 82% on this assignment. And I guess hearing me say I didn’t try really ticked her off enough for her to crash out. She literally started crying, stood up, came to me, faced me, proceeded to slap me across the face, and ran out of the room.

After that, everyone, mostly girls in my class, just glared at me like I’d committed a crime. One girl asked me what I did, and I said I don’t really know. They told me that whatever I did was wrong. Finally, the teacher just said “stop” and went to tell admin about the situation. I was also was prompted to go with her to see admin.

This was pretty uneventful. My parents were called and so were the girl’s. She was suspended for 3 days.

So the next day, I walked into class and instantly feeling the tension. The girls all glared at me again. This kept on throughout the day and week.

Did I actually do something wrong? It was just a joke. Not even at her. Why do the girls keep glaring at me?

So yeah… AITA for saying I didn’t try?
