📝 AITAH for saying this to my gf

Last night my girlfriend and I were getting dinner ready and were laughing and having a good time. I had just bought a new pair of jeans earlier that day, and while we were getting things ready, she asked me, "how do you like your new jeans?" Still joking around, I said, "they’re not too tight, not too loose, just like you." It was said in a light, playful tone and wasn’t meant as an insult at all, but my girlfriend’s mood totally shifted.

As we sat down to eat, I asked her what was wrong, and she said that my comment was rude and that she was pissed off about it. I apologized and told her I didn’t mean it as an insult — if anything, I was trying to say she’s just right — but also said I could see now why she might have taken it the wrong way, and that I really was sorry because it was never my intention to hurt her feelings. I went to give her a hug, but she pulled away from me.

The rest of the night she sat on the couch basically glaring at me, and then went to bed without even saying goodnight. I made her an “I’m sorry” card and left it where she'd see it when she got up for work. She did see it because it’s been moved, but she still won’t answer my texts this morning.

Am I the asshole for thinking that it wasn’t even that bad of a comment?

Edit — I thought I was saying she's the perfect size by saying this. I’m 35 and she’s 30.
