Hello! I'm a 16 yr old boy. I met this boy, also 16, at school two years ago and we eventually became really close friends. He's a pretty problematic person, and while he's usually a fun guy to hang out with, he does have a lot of flaws: he doesn't respect boundaries and people, plays the victim, lies to others and to himself, and overall is too lazy to overcome these things. He's also depressed and sometimes he tells me that he wants to end it, especially now that his girlfriend left him for the reasons written above. He gradually broke up with almost all of his friends, always for the same reasons; however, before breaking up with a friend group of his, he introduced me to them and we got really along, so even when he broke up with them i kept hanging out with both him and the friend group separately. He acts very jealous of this group and wants me to tell him when we hang out without me. He also tells me that i'm the only reason he's still alive (since i'm the only person that stayed with him for 2 years), and think that all the people that left him are assholes. Anyway, less than a week ago his girlfriend left him, and he came to me for comfort. I obviously conforted him, but also tried to tell him some things that he should work on to make relationships with people last longer. He immediately started dry texting and he replied with "ok i guess" like three times in a row. Since then, he has become dryer with me, and today while i was hanging out with his group of ex friends he texted me "are you enjoying the hangout?". I said yes and told him that we could hang out this week. Later he called me and told me "whoops sorry, i forgot you're busy, i wanted to ask you to hang out". AITAH for gradually putting some distance between us?
