AITA? One of my friends has a cat and has had it for I think almost 2 years. She loves this cat. Makes videos constantly about him and his silly behavior, his crazy antics, buys him countless cat toys and even builds him little cat houses. I told her when she first got him that once he's old enough she should go ahead and get him neutered so that he doesn't Mark his territory all over her bedroom. This was almost 2 years ago. I've told her time and time again she needs to go ahead and get him neutered because he has terrible behavior and is always scratching/biting her or her guests. She rents a single room in a house with other tenants and this cat has lived exclusively in her single bedroom for his entire life. He wasn't socialized with other animals and is aggressive to changes in his environment. A couple months ago she mentioned she had finally set up an appointment and that she was taking him within the week to get fixed. I told her if she needed any help with him afterwards I was a phonecall away. She never mentioned it again so I assumed it went smoothly.
Yesterday she took the cat over to one of our mutual friends house who also has many outdoor male cats. I wasn't there but I am guessing she didn't give the cat time to acclimate to our friends house and Her cat freaked out in her arms and scratched the absolute s*** out of her. Now she is pissed at the cat, says she hates him, and says she wants to get rid of it. I said "he shouldn't be acting this way after you got him neutered" to which she replied that she never took him to the appointment that was set up and she doesn't "want to hear it right now."
I don't really know how to feel because I've told her so many times an easy solution and even offered to help her pay for it and/or take the cat to the appointment if she was busy. And now this poor cat is going to suffer because of her irresponsibility. I honestly kind of hope she does find it a better home so at least he'll get the best care. But now she's mad at me. I feel like a dick for bringing it up right after she was hurt cause I didn't mean it as an "I told you so" I was just genuinely confused why he would still be so feral after the surgery. I have 2 cats that I love very much and have had for several years, and I couldn't even begin to imagine giving them up, especially if it was over something I could have prevented. She was obviously expecting sympathy from me and I disappointed her and idk how to react. AITA??
UPDATE: she moved houses after this and claimed to have found the cat a new home. After several months she finally confided in me that she just put the cat outside. He would still hang out around her home and she fed him for a little while. Made him a warm shelter under the house. But since then she got kicked out of that house and hasn't been back. Who knows where the cat is now?
