this has been eating me alive.

i (15f) have a friend, lets call her maya (15f). we’ve been close since 6th grade. like ride or die type. lately though she hadn’t been herself. she stopped doing her makeup (which she loved) her texts got dry she started skipping lunch and sleeping through class. i asked if she was okay she’d just say she was tired.

i got worried. one day i told the school counselor everything how maya had been acting that i thought she might be depressed maybe hurting herself. i didn’t tell maya i did this.

the counselor called her in. then called her parents.

turns out her home life was way worse than i thought. her mom is super controlling and had no idea maya was struggling. when she found out she freaked out. took her phone, pulled her out of school to send her to a religious muslim school, blocked all of us. i haven’t seen or heard from maya in over a month. she’s just gone.

now people are saying i betrayed her trust. that if i’d just talked to her more maybe it wouldn’t have come to this. and yeah maybe they’re right. i keep thinking about the look she gave me when she realized i was the one who told.

it was like i killed something in her.
