My friend (27F) and I (26F) been " close " for nearly a decade, looking back it was pretty much one sided, I would pay for her bills and her parties given her financial situation ( even as teens). I honestly didn't mind that until her parents, her mom started asking my parents to loan out our jewellery to pawn off and take a Chuck out of my college fund to help them. My parents declined. Her Dad has BAD credit and loans everywhere but they refuse to acknowledge it. And as time passed I got into a medical school in a different city. She wanted to move to Europe for further education but lacked funds. She couldn't get loans given her history and her dad's cibil report. As we were having a conversation regarding loan options I offered to help her with a small amount from my savings. She thanked me and then time passed and I needed the money so I reminded her to arrange the money to pay me back . She kept ignoring the messages. She's in Europe now and cites expenses and difficult life. I try to understand and give her time. Couple of Years go by, I periodically remind her to pay be back she just ignores my messages. One day I lose my wit and message her how she's been a terrible person and how apple doesn't fall far from the tree and I will be needing my money back asap. She replies this time! She goes on about how difficult her life has been and how she assumed the money had been a gift not a loan and how I'm acting like she owes me by repeatedly asking her and in the end she assured me she'll get back in a month. Month passes. Another month passes. Girly is MIA My messages go unheard. She stops opening my messages. So I message her boyfriend to inform her to contact me and he goes off ranting how I'm being unreasonable and childish and rude and question the kind of person I am. How I'm acting like she owes me I repeat it to him that it's my money I'm asking for. And feel free to cut me off your lives once you return the money. They both start questioning my maturity and usage of the word "owe" and how I have to grow up. What's funny is I'm a full fledged doctor hearing about growth from a person with a fake diploma ( yeah he forged his certificates and fled ) AITH for calling out their entitlement and wanting my money back?
