Long story kinda short.. I was moving from my old house into my new house and I had to throw out old couches, furniture, etc…

My neighbor offered for me to use his 1980’s dump truck.. thing WAS and IS a p.o.s.

It’s a manual transmission…. Keep this in mind. He offered to lend me the truck, I said yes. He asked me if I can drive manual, I said yes. (My first car was manual) I was working a lot of overtime at the time so he dropped the truck off at my house… The weekend came and I left to go to the dump a mile or two from my house. I drive a quarter mile down my road at the time, putting it into third gear, the transmission took an absolute shit.
Couldn’t move couldn’t do anything.

I ended up taking the keys to the mechanic who has done work on this truck (who I’ve known for a long time as well) and he tells me yeah I told him the transmission was going to go around 3rd gear a year ago and it just happens to be that you were the asshole that was driving when it happened…

Now a few months later, transmission repaired, it cost my buddy 1750.. he wants 1200 from me… am I wrong for not wanting to pay him?

He gave me broken goods, and he’s trying to make this my problem. What if the transmission went when I was going 70 miles an hour and killed a mini van full of children? Would he ask me for the money then…
