Hey everyone, I (24F) need some advice about my relationship. My boyfriend (26M) and I were close friends for two years before we got together. As friends, we could go a day or two without talking, and it was fine. But now that we’re dating, I feel like he still treats me more like a buddy than a girlfriend.
The Good:
- He’s responsible, generous, funny, and honest.
- We have a great time together.
The Issue:
- He rarely says "I love you" unless I remind him.
- I initiate most of the "good morning" texts—he only sends one if I forget.
- I crave small romantic gestures, but he doesn’t seem to care.
- When I’m upset, he tries to "fix" things with logic instead of comforting me emotionally.
- I feel like he prefers the "low-maintenance friend" version of me and gets annoyed when I act "girly" or need emotional support.
As a friend, I could just disappear when I was in a bad mood, but in a relationship, I want to feel loved and cared for. Now, I constantly think about breaking up because I wonder if we’re better off as friends.
Has anyone been in this situation? Should I try communicating this differently, or is this a sign we’re just not compatible as a couple?
