I (M30) have been with my girlfriend (F30) for 10 months, overall she has always been supportive and caring. I try to be a good boyfriend and respect her independence, I don’t want to be toxic or controlling.

Recently, I communicated to her that her lack of time and effort with me over the past month and a half had been upsetting. She promised she would do better, and I was hoping this event would be her chance to prove that.

This week, I got a last-minute opportunity to showcase my brand at an event. At the same time, she had already promised a friend, two weeks ago, to attend her birthday party. The party isn’t extremely close to her, but she misses going out and wanted to go.

She said she would meet me the next day instead. I understand she had plans, but it still hurt that she didn’t try to be there, especially since my two best friends have a booth at the event and her two best friends are at the party, maybe that made it easier for her not to feel guilty.

I would have dropped anything to show up for her if it were the other way around.
