I told this story to a friend and he told me why I don’t put it on here for advice (jokingly, but I thought it was a good idea) English is not my native language, so I apologise for the grammar mistakes

I 19(M) have a cousin in her mid teens whose birthday was some days ago, most of our family was there and we all had a good time, here’s the thing, my cousin has three siblings and she likes photography, drawing and stuff, anyways, she got some money and some books, now the problem is, she also got a children’s toy from her parents that she was visibly(?) Upset about but didn’t complain or anything, she talked to me and some other cousins for the rest of the day and when most people left, I asked her what was going on since she still looked pretty down from before, when she told me she wasn’t happy about what she got from her parents since it was something she would never use and it would just be lying somewhere in the corner of her room and she was upset about it because she told her mom she just wanted some mascara if she couldn’t find anything that Is something my cousin (her siblings) heard, to which she called her an “ungrateful AH” and other names that I won’t say here now my cousin isn’t someone who would usually complain about gifts, she wasn’t even ungrateful about it, she even played with some of our little cousins with it, but later she was really sad after arguing with her siblings and decided to go for a walk, now a few days have passed and she’s no longer upset about the gift, but I still I feel like it hit her deeply that she was attacked because she was upset about a gift that she said she didn’t want before Is she TAH???

TL;DR: my teenage cousin got a children’s toy from her parents for her birthday, despite telling them she wanted something more age-appropriate like mascara. She was visibly upset but didn’t complain, and even played with younger kids using the toy. Later, she confided in me that she was disappointed, and one of her siblings overheard and called her ungrateful and insulted her. She walked it off and is now acting fine, but i feel it affected her more deeply than she’s letting on.
