Wife went into hospital for a surgical procedure called manual vacuum aspiration for a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks. She didn't want anyone to know. I accidentally mentioned to my parents that she had a hospital appointment but didn't say what it was for. They called me today asking how she is and I told them she said she was fine.

They have now texted her saying they are glad she got on well at the hospital. She has completely overreacted and is making me feel awful. I apologised and explained how it's a good thing that someone cares about her, and reminded her they don't know what it was for. She's still upset.

I told her I do not want a marriage where I have to tread on eggshells like this, where I'm made to feel awful over something that most people would agree to be nice. AITAH
