📝 Someone is privately messaging people in my circle to dig into my personal life — has this happened to you?

A few weeks ago, an account on a social media platform (let’s say Twitter) started reaching out to people around me—close friends, acquaintances, even my partner. Instead of contacting me directly, this person chose to message others with vague questions, trying to gather personal information about me without raising suspicion.

The messages weren’t aggressive or threatening, but they were clearly manipulative. They used phrases like “Do you know someone named [X]?” or “I think we have someone in common” and then dropped oddly specific details in an attempt to spark conversation. Everything was done through private messages, maintaining a tone that seemed casual or even concerned.

What’s disturbing is how targeted it’s been. This person seems to have gone through old posts and interactions on my profile—likes, comments, tags—and from there, started contacting the people who appeared most often. That’s how they managed to reach individuals who are very close to me without actually being part of my social circle.

So far, they haven’t been consistent or openly hostile, but the intent is obvious: they’re trying to learn more about my life, possibly to use it against me or stir trouble quietly. I’ve been collecting evidence, keeping a record of all interactions, and watching how it develops without responding directly.

Has anyone experienced something similar? How did you deal with it?
