So I (19M) have been dating my girlfriend (20F) for about a year now. I really care about her—we have fun together, she’s sweet, supportive, and we get along well most of the time.
That said, over the past few months she’s gained around 5–10kg (roughly 11–22 lbs). I want to be clear: I don’t think she looks "bad" or anything, and I haven’t said anything hurtful or made jokes. But I’d be lying if I said it hasn’t affected my physical attraction to her a bit.
I know that weight fluctuates and it’s not the most important thing in the world. I also know everyone goes through phases and bodies change, and maybe this is something temporary. But I’m wondering if it's shallow or unfair of me to consider ending things over this.
I'm not expecting anyone to be a fitness model forever, and I’m not trying to control her body. I just feel like attraction matters in a relationship too, and I don’t want to lie to myself or to her. But at the same time, I’d feel like an asshole for hurting someone I care about over something like this.
