📝 WIBTA for cancelling on a long-awaited girls trip to support my fiancé with our sick cat?

I might be a bit emotional right now, so I need some perspective.

Our 2-year-old Bengal cat was just diagnosed with FIP. He starts treatment tomorrow — one and a half pills once a day for 12 weeks. If it works, we should see improvement within a week. But right now, he's extremely unwell. As in "might not make it through the night" level unwell.

He's been on multiple meds for the past week, and giving them to him is a full-blown two-person wrestling match. He has to be swaddled, and someone has to force his jaw open while the other gets the meds in. I’m experienced with medicating cats, and even I struggle. My fiancé, who’s never had a pet before, let alone a sick one, finds it overwhelming.

I have a girls' trip abroad in less than two weeks. It’s for a friend’s birthday and another's pregnancy celebration. It’s been planned and paid for for months. I’m also the only one confident driving abroad, so I’d be driving the rental car.

These same friends just went all out for my bachelorette last weekend — travel, fancy dress outfits, and fully put in all their energy to all the games, etc. They’re also making a big effort for our wedding this summer. They’ve really shown up for me, and I want to do the same for them.

But I can’t imagine leaving my fiancé to manage our cat alone. The meds start working within a week, but this means our kitty will likely have MORE energy — meaning he’ll be even harder to medicate. Right now, we’re doing night shifts because he’s incontinent and only eating licky treats from our fingers. My fiancé is emotionally drained, and I worry this will push him too far. And if he can't get the meds in, FIP is fatal without treatment.

If I don’t go, I worry it’ll feel like I’m bailing on my friends — like I’m not showing the same level of effort or care they’ve shown me.

Reddit, AITA for backing out of the trip, or WIBTA for leaving my fiancé to deal with this?
