My roommates and I get along fine. One is never home, but the other two are always home if not attending classes. I am home when I’m not in class or working. I do a lot of both. I usually get home between 3pm-8pm depending on what day. However, I always have to wake up at 6am. My other roommates do not. They have afternoon classes and late morning classes and that’s it.
The walls are thin in our student apartment. Very thin. You can hear everything out in the kitchen and living room. Because of my schedule, I sleep early. I’m usually in bed by 9pm-10pm and am a very light sleeper.
My roommates, however, are night owls. They’re up until 3-5am using the kitchen and cooking large meals for themselves and doing other things. Giggling, laughing, chatting... I have had multiple conversations about the volume with them. I do not police anything during the day because it’s daytime. Even if I squeeze in a nap, I will never tell anyone to be mind that. But at this hour, currently 2am, and you’re cooking and washing dishes… I’m actually getting annoyed. We’ve talked and agreed before that there is no noise being made after 11pm if someone is trying to sleep. They agreed. But still do not abide by it because they’re cooking entire meals for themselves at unreasonable hours.
I told them I would never keep them from food but to at least wait until the morning to clean up. They agreed. But they still don’t. I feel like I’ve communicated as much as I can and there’s still issues. At this point, I want to tell them to eat at normal times and snack at night in their rooms if they have to and to stay out of the shared spaces if they can after 11pm. But it feels unfair because they also pay for this apartment too. I don’t know. So…WIBTAH if I suggested this?
