My brother-in-law and his girlfriend had a baby a few months ago. He was born addicted to cocaine. This is the fourth child she's lost custody of. He went to foster care for months, until two weeks ago when the state gave my 71-year-old, single MIL custody. She told us she will have the baby until DFS decides whether BIL can have custody back, if not, baby will be adopted, not by her. MIL invited my kids 16,13, and 12 to dinner to meet the baby. I don't want my children to go out of fear they will be traumatized if this baby is adopted. My husband doesn't want to be seen as an ahole by his mom by not being supportive. I don't want to connect either, my husband is the only sibling so if this baby stays, grows up and my MIL gets old and my BIL never gets clean, we will have to raise him because we will love him by then. Truly confused, worried and seeping in dissonance. AITAH for keeping my kids from their cousin?
