This is driving me 🤪 Last week I ate at a local Mexican place. My waitress was friendly, and the place was slow. She was very light-skinned, and I thought she was white. For reference, I'm white. When I heard her speaking in fluent, rapid Spanish, I said, 'Oh cool, I didn't realize you were from Mexico. She said, 'I am from El Salvador.' I said something like, 'That's neat. I thought you were local.'

She didn't seem upset, but she disappeared, and there were no customers. Her previous customers got the tab immediately, and I had to get another guy for my receipt. I felt bad, tipped her 50%, put it in her hand. She mumbled something, and I'll never go back to that place.
