I (20f) got invited to dinner at my boyfriend’s house - just a regular family thing, his parents, siblings, a couple cousins. I wanted to make a good impression, so i put some effort in. I wore this off-shoulder black dress, kind of simple but super flattering. curled my hair a bit, soft makeup, little gloss... nothing wild, just enough to feel confident.
I don’t normally dress like that around strangers but idk, i was feeling kinda bold that night. Plus my bf literally told me i looked 'dangerous in the best way' when he picked me up, so i thought it was fine.
Dinner was awkward though. his mom barely said a word to me and gave weird looks the whole time. Later his cousin (who was super nice btw) casually said something like “you look amazing but... yeah, she’s very traditional.”
When i asked my bf about it he said his mom told him i 'dressed for attention' and that i made her uncomfortable. I told him i dressed for him, not her. He wants me to apologize just to smooth things over but honestly?? I don’t feel like i did anything wrong.
I wasn’t half naked or anything. i just looked good. Even i did a double take in the mirror before we left.
AITAH?
