📝 AITA for asking for a new pair of pants after my partner's pants got ruined in a police standoff?

This is a long story, so bare with me. The gist of this is: a couple hours after we got a pair of pants, they were ruined. We asked if we could get a new pair and showed evidence, and Zara said "no", and now I am wondering if we should have asked.

It was my partner's birthday on Monday, and we went shopping. He got a cute pair of pants at Zara for his birthday. I bought a dress. We were having a beautiful day on vacation together! We then went to dinner and decided to eat outside because it was a lovely day. A shirtless man with a knife in the back of his pants then ran by yelling "they have a gun?! Aren't you going to help?!". The police were running after him with guns yelling "if you don't drop the knife, I am going to shoot you!". They got him cornered into this bus stop, shot rubber bullets at him, which broke the glass. He then ran up to me and my partner at our table and suddenly we were surrounded by cops pointing their guns at him...but also at us because we were between him and them. We got down, and my partner pushed me into a restaurant. We had to hide in the bathroom because the entire restaurant was glass, and we didn't want any stray bullets getting us. We were stuck in lockdown for over 3 hours while the situation was deescalating.

We then go outside after the police give us the go ahead, but we don't see our stuff anywhere. The man with the knife had all our stuff. He had it all behind a barricade he created with our table. We waited for a while across the street, and I notice he is wearing my bandana, my partner's scarf, and my partner's jacket is in his pocket. Apparently he had a deal with the cops that they'd leave him alone if he promised to return our items to the table. He returned both our bags. They were covered in his blood from being shot in the hand. Many items on the inside were also covered in blood, including my partner's new pants. We had to go buy new backpacks and throw away so much stuff.

There's more to the story, but I don't have the energy to explain it all...It was all pretty traumatising.

Anyways, we went into Zara today and told this story to the Zara employee, and we asked if there was any way we could get a new pair of pants. We showed her our receipt and the picture of the bloody pants with their tag on it to show it was new and unworn. We also offered police article evidence. She said that she could not give us a discount. She was professional but seemed to think our ask was a little ridiculous...I understand it wasn't her responsibility, but I didn't think I was wrong to ask...AITA?

Edit: Lol we know it isn't their responsibility, and we knew it was a long shot! We don't think it was a big deal, and we bought the new pair without any argument or fuss. I am asking if it was wrong to even ask, not if it was wrong to expect them to replace the pair. We did NOT expect them to say yes.
