I (20M) had this friend, let’s call him Z. Me and Z been boys since freshman year. Ride or die type. We’ve been through everything—fights, breakups, family stuff, wild nights. We joked hard, dark humor, roast battles, all that. Nothing was off limits. Until it was.

One night, we’re all in a late Discord call. Everyone’s joking, roasting each other. I said something light about Z still living with his grandma, and everyone laughed. Z didn’t. He went quiet for a second. Then dropped, “Yeah? I’ll get with your mom and be your stepdad. Watch.”

Everyone laughed. Me? Not so much.

It was weird, because Z’s always been… too friendly with my mom. Like complimenting her cooking too much. Standing too close. Once he called her by her first name in this flirty tone, and I laughed it off. Now I’m thinking maybe I shouldn’t have.
