I was casually talking with my mom about some upcoming trips my boyfriend and I have planned - two were specifically mentioned through the end of this year. Without hesitation, she said “Can he afford to do that?”. I immediately responded saying to her how inappropriate of a question that is.

Her response/explanation was that she knows he’s self-employed and I like to travel a lot but maybe he doesn’t have the money to travel like I do. I then told her that he’s a grown ass man (late 30s) and I trust that if he can’t afford to do something, he’ll tell me.

And keep in mind, this man has zero debt, owns all equipment outright for his business. But because he’s blue collar she assumes he’s poor.
