Last year I 17m at the time was in class with a friend 18f at the time we'll call her Alex. She had just gotten kicked off the spring musical for vaping and her mom had grounded her. I noticed a bunch of small horizontal cuts on her wrists (she was wearing short-sleeves) and asked her about them. She said that it was self harm but that she was fine and it wasn't a big deal. She didn't seem fine to me but I didn't know what to say or do, so after class I met up with two of my friends in the library Wren 15f and Tyler 18m and tried to discuss it with them. I said that she was hurting herself but before I could ask for advice they both started scolding me for telling them. They were saying it wasnt my business and that Alex would've gotten in more trouble had her mom found out. I tried to explain that I was just concerned and didn't know how to help her, they said that didn't matter and that I shouldn't have talked about it anyway. I apologized said I wouldn't tell anyone else and that I'd apologize to Alex too. I had expected it to end there, however two weeks later I got a paragraph long text from Tyler telling me that he'd been uncomfortable with my behavior for the whole year that so had everybody in my friend group, citing a whole bunch of things I did that were wrong, and saying that he couldn't excuse my behavior anymore after what happened with Alex. After that I learned that either Tyler or Wren (maybe both) had told everyone they knew about the Alex situation. Almost everyone sided against me and I lost almost all my friends. I know I shouldn't have said anything about Alex self harming, and I did word my concerns really badly. I think maybe Tyler and Wren got the impression that I was making fun of her? Anyway I just feel really betrayed because I only told those two but they told everyone. AITA?
