This might sound a little questionable, but honestly, I didn’t think it would turn into a whole thing.
I’m 20F, and my friend “Lena” (not her real name, obviously) is 21. She’s been dating this guy “Mark” (24M) for almost a year now. Everyone around her kind of knew he was sketchy — super flirty with girls he barely knew, always hiding his phone, and once he even called her by his ex’s name while we were out. She just laughed it off and said he was tired or whatever, but it was giving weird energy.
So yeah, I made a fake Instagram account. Nothing crazy — just a girl with a normal feed, a few followers, private account, decent profile pic. I followed him, liked a story, and left it alone. Within a day, he DM’d me. First it was basic stuff, then it escalated. He started flirting, and eventually dropped something like “my girlfriend doesn’t need to know.”
I recorded the chat and sent it to Lena. I didn’t say anything dramatic, just “thought you should see this.”
She flipped. Not at him — at me. Said I was manipulative, jealous, trying to sabotage her relationship. She actually called it a “setup” and said I crossed the line.
So I blocked her. Didn’t feel like arguing over something I didn’t even benefit from. I just didn’t want her wasting time on a guy who clearly didn’t care.
Now some of our mutuals are acting weird. I didn’t tell them anything, but word spreads. A few think I went too far, others said nothing, and I’m just kind of here wondering if I should’ve stayed out of it.
AITA for trying to help and then dipping when it all blew up?
